Webinar Series: AI and Sustainability

Webinar Series: AI and Sustainability 870 489 IEEE Europe

Summary

In March 2025, IEEE Europe concluded a webinar series on sustainable Artificial Intelligence (AI). The “AI and Sustainability” series, wich was co-organized with the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence’s (GPAI) RAISE project and supported by Centre d’expertise international de Montréal en Intelligence artificielle (CEIMIA), examined how sustainable AI can help harness the potential of technologies such as generative AI while protecting the environment and preserving finite resources. The series featured four events with participation from academics, sustainable AI specialists, policymakers, and industry leaders. Together, they contributed to advancing understanding of AI’s role in relation to its environmental footprint. Watch the replay below to explore the topics discussed.

Episode 1: Tackling Sustainability Through the AI Lifecycle (27/06/24)

The first Episode in the series took place on Thursday 27 June 2024 on “Tackling Sustainability Through the AI Lifecycle,” organized in collaboration with the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence’s (GPAI) RAISE project and supported by Centre d’expertise international de Montréal en Intelligence artificielle (CEIMIA). This webinar was moderated by IEEE President and CEO Tom Coughlin. It explored AI systems as enabling technologies that can offer solutions for climate-related challenges while also considering their own carbon footprint.
