What We Do
Opened in 2017, the IEEE Europe office (“IEEE Europe”) is a hub for addressing European and global issues of priority in technology and innovation, aligned with the IEEE’s mission of advancing technology for humanity. We bring a global perspective to European discussions, leveraging the technical knowledge and expertise of the IEEE community, while helping scale European initiatives worldwide.
A key focus is standardization within technology governance. We work with policymakers, public institutions, industry, and universities to find practical solutions around governance, standards, and emerging technological challenges. By raising awareness of IEEE’s global offerings and perspective, and by developing new initiatives, we help shape discussions that connect technology with society.
About IEEE

European Activities
History of IEEE
IEEE’s origins date back to 1884 with the founding of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE). In 1963, the AIEE merged with the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE, founded in 1912) to form the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE, pronounced ‘eye-triple-E’). IEEE’s members are mainly engineers and technologists from around the world dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
