Sustainability
IEEE’s work in the sustainability space focuses on the nexus of green and digital transformation, and the transition towards responsible innovation which achieves resource optimization, transition to circular and sustainable value chains and ecosystems.
This work is aligned with the principles of ethically aligned design and the IEEE 7000-2021, as sustainability can be viewed as one of the values to be embedded in systems, products and platforms and services. IEEE Europe engages with local, regional and global stakeholders on topics closely linked to European regulation, compliance, and with impact to global value chains and challenges.
IEEE has a multitude of initiatives, working groups, standards and programs related to different aspects of the topic spread across IEEE organizational units, including IEEE Planet Positive 2030, Sustainable Mobility, the Energy and Water Nexus, smart energy, and environmental impact of digital technologies, among others. Further resources can be found under IEEE Technology for Sustainable Climate.

IEEE Young Professionals
Recognising the vital role of young professionals in shaping a sustainable future, IEEE established the Young Professionals Climate and Sustainability Task Force (CSTF) which develops tools, resources, and support mechanisms in the intersection of climate, sustainability, and technology—strengthening the community of innovators dedicated to positive environmental and societal impact. IEEE Europe works closely with CSTF in particular on Europe-based events and stakeholders.
