The IEEE Age Verification Certification assesses the design, specification, evaluation, and deployment of age verification systems, in line with the IEEE 2089.1™, Standard for Online Age Verification. This standard establishes a framework for estimating or verifying a user’s age or age range with a proportionate level of certainty and accuracy, helping digital services ensure that online environments and content are suitable for children and aligned with their rights and needs.
The certification covers six key indicators of confidence—accuracy, frequency of assurance, counter-fraud measures, authenticity, frequency of authenticity, and birth-date verification—providing a proportionate and measurable approach to evaluating system performance.
The training supports participants in understanding and applying the IEEE 2089.1 framework to real-world contexts. It focuses on how to design and evaluate compliant systems, align with relevant laws and codes such as the UK’s Age-Appropriate Design Code, the EU’s Digital Services Act, and the US COPPA, and develop age assurance processes that build trust, mitigate risk, and ensure safer digital experiences for minors.
