Direct Current for European Union (DCforEU)
DCforEU is a Horizon Europe Framework Programme-funded project on the role of High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) & Direct Current (DC) technologies to reach the EU 2050 climate targets. The main goal of DCforEU is to provide support to facilitate the work of the Implementation Working Group on DC technologies (DC IWG) for the European Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan, one of the main EU instruments to boost the transition towards a climate-neutral energy system through the development of low-carbon technologies in a fast and cost-competitive way.
IEEE – through its European branch, the IEEE Technology Center GmbH, is a consortium partner in the project, together with the following organisations:
- KU Leuven / Belgium (project coordinator)
- DTU – Technical University of Denmark / Denmark
- SuperGrid Institute / France
Expected Deliverables
The DCforEU project aims to create awareness about direct current technologies and disseminate the results of the SET Plan Working Group on Direct Current Technologies. For this purpose, DCforEU engages with targeted stakeholders (e.g., scientific and industry community, policy makers, consumers, etc.) to share information about HVDC and DC technologies, their importance, requirements, existing gaps and ways to address them, regulatory evolution needs, addressing also societal concerns about health and safety; the project further aims to disseminate related knowledge through the development of appropriate material and events on the work and outputs of the SET Plan.
